Painting Paneling

Today I want to share with you what I have done to our upstairs living room.
It has taken months to accomplish what I have finished so far but for the most part, a lot of it is done. I still have a lot of painting to do and it will happen eventually.
Ready for before and after pics?
Me too!!

This is what I started with.

As you can see, we have brown 60's paneling.
When we moved into this house I actually liked it but I have grown tired of it over the years and finally decided to paint it.

First, clean your walls.

This is a primer that I put on first.
Oil-based kilz so as to minimize bleed through.

You can't tell but I painted it a light grey.
I absolutely love this color.
I painted my daughter's room the same.
You can see that post here.

I have had this gate for years and decided it needed to come inside!
I cleaned it up and I love it!!

Next, I added windows that I have been collecting over the years.

The arched window is something I bought just recently.

And then I added a frame I painted.
You can see that project here.
The windows are all different colors.
I thought about painting them all the same but decided against it.

And the final look!

*I updated a couple of the windows and think they fit better.

It is so much brighter.
What do you think?
Have you painted over paneling?
Did you like the results?
Let me know in the comments.
