Cake Stand Redo

I'm not sure if you remember the cake stand that I bought from Good Will months ago but I finally got to it!! Yay!!

You can find it here.

My hope was to paint it and stress it.

After getting to the project, I had to change things up a bit.

Here's why.

You see the tape to keep the lid on?

That was a problem! That shipping tape they used eats through the plastic, which leaves a smeared foggy mess on the plastic cake stand. No matter what you use, it will never come off. I used goo gone and everything else I could think of and nothing!! So if you see this on something at Goodwill or some other place, don't buy it, just sayin'.

So what to do?

It is a very pretty cake stand and I didn't want to throw it out.

It has a couple little cracks in it but nothing that will break it!

And, it is older and made out of hard plastic so it shows wear but I thought I could save it.

I decided to add a wide ribbon where the foggy tape mark was left. Took the knob off and painted it and the cake stand a creamy white.

Stressed it a bit, hot glued 12 eye hooks to the underside of the stand, added some fake crystals I had in my stash and tada, much better.

I had to use fishing line because my daughter took all of the jewelry making things with her (love ya) and I didn't have any wire or jump rings to use.

The ribbon is from last year and is a Christmas theme. I loved the writing on it so that is why I chose it. Not because of the Christmas theme but because it was wide enough to cover most of the foggy residue left by the tape.

Hot glued the knob back on!

And I love how it turned out!

So what do you think??

Have you ever taken something home and realized something was not quite right with it and you had to redo it?

Have a great week!!

  4. I love what you've done to the cake stand. Sadly so many people would have thrown it out because of the fogging on the cloche. What you have done has not only shown that things can be rejuvenated but also look pretty darn good after the use of glue etc.

  5. I agree - it is too cute not to salvage. I think the ribbon looks great, and I would not have thought it was there for camouflage.A covered cake stand is def. handy. Happy SYC
